How much can I earn as a host & what is the fee breakdown?
Hosts keep 85% of the nightly rate they set. Guests pay the nightly rate + 15% service fee + $9/night damage waiver. Pricing depends on location, amenities, size/type, and seasonality. Example: at $40/night, host earns $34. A dozen nights can offset an annual inspection.
Our goal is to create a win-win situation for both boaters and moorage owners. By choosing to host fellow boaters on your moorage, OnBuoy enables you to offset your maintenance costs, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of ownership without the full financial burden.
How much can I earn?
The amount you can earn as an OnBuoy Host depends on a few key factors, most importantly the nightly rate you set for your moorage. As an OnBuoy Host, you have complete control and can determine your own pricing based on factors like:
- Location: Moorages in popular boating destinations or with desirable views, protected bays, or shore access options may command higher rates.
- Amenities: Access to power, water, dinghy docks, or other amenities can influence your pricing.
- Size and Type of Moorage: Larger slips or unique mooring options might justify a higher nightly fee.
- Seasonality: You can adjust your rates based on peak boating seasons or local events.
Ultimately, the more often your moorage is booked and the higher the nightly rate you set, the more you can earn as an OnBuoy Host. Many of our hosts find that even occasional bookings can significantly offset their annual maintenance expenses, making boating more affordable and sustainable.
Shared fee structure
- Hosts: Retain 85% of the nightly rate.
- Guests: Pay a 15% service fee + $9/night damage waiver.
OnBuoy creates a sustainable community through a transparent, shared fee structure: As an OnBuoy Host, you retain 85% of the nightly fee you set. To support the platform and provide a seamless and secure experience, Guests pay the Host's nightly rate plus a 15% service fee and a $9 nightly damage waiver to protect against damage that may occur to a Host's property during a stay.
Example of Host Proceeds:
For a mooring buoy owner with a nightly rate of $40, here's how the breakdown would look for a 1-night booking:
- Reservation Fee: $40.00/night
- OnBuoy Fee (15%): $6.00
- Your Earnings (85%): $34.00
An annual moorage inspection typically runs between $300 and $400, so by sharing your moorage with the OnBuoy community for as few as 12 nights a year, you can essentially make your moorage free to own.
Additional Benefits of Hosting:
- Peace of Mind: OnBuoy provides a platform for responsible boaters, and our OnBuoy Host Protection safeguards against accidental damage to your equipment during a stay.
- Reduced Wear and Tear: Sharing your moorage occasionally helps prevent prolonged periods of inactivity, which can contribute to wear and tear.
- Contribute to the Community: You're not only helping yourself but also fellow boaters by providing additional mooring options and fostering a vibrant boating community.
