Why is there another boat tied to the mooring I reserved?

Causes include owner presence, overlapping timing, mistaken identity, incorrect coordinates, or swapped gear. Follow the resolution guide: verify details, hail the captain, document with photos, and contact help@onbuoy.com if unresolved so we can assist and address offenders.

While this situation is not common, there are a variety of reasons why another boat may be tied to the mooring you have reserved and most of them are honest mistakes or a simple misunderstanding:

  • The owner of that moorage could be ending their use of the moorage or could be on-site to check the equipment prior to your stay.
  • The owner might have forgotten about your reservation and loaned the moorage to a friend or family member.
  • A fellow boater may have mistaken that moorage for another one they reserved.
  • A fellow OnBuoy community member may be in the process of ending their stay from the prior day.
  • You might be at the wrong moorage. The owner might have incorrectly entered the GPS coordinates or they may have used coordinates from a long time ago that were recorded incorrectly at the time.
  • A moorage might have moved or the equipment with the identifying marks might have been accidentally swapped out with equipment from a neighboring moorage.
